Hoffenheim were unable to build on their win over Stuttgart. Christian Ilzer’s side had won 2:1 the previous week, with Adam Hložek scoring both goals. The Czech forward did not get on the scoresheet in Paderborn, however, as his team lost 1:3. After four matchdays, Hoffenheim have three points and sit 14th in the table.
The match against the newly promoted side did not go the visitors’ way from the outset. Paderborn scored twice before the break, and Hoffenheim responded after half-time through Adam Daghim. The hosts quickly restored their two-goal advantage, though. Hoffenheim also remain without Bernardo. The Brazilian is struggling with an Achilles tendon injury and is not yet available to the coach. Mats Rots has taken his place on the left.
After four matchdays, Hoffenheim have scored seven goals and conceded ten. The team have already shown this season that they can pick up points, but they need greater consistency. After the international break, they face another match in which they will be looking to return to the form they showed at the start of the season.
