FC Augsburg went into the match against Werder with several players missing, and the situation has not improved. Manuel Baum’s side still have to make do without Anton Kade, who is struggling with a muscle injury. Sima Suso, Faik Sakar, Steve Mounié and Tim Breithaupt are also unavailable. None of the six players was included in the squad for the game in Bremen.
Despite their problems, Augsburg held their own against Werder for a long time. The visitors led 2:0 thanks to goals from Robin Fellhauer and Calvin Brackelmann, but conceded three times after the break and ultimately lost 2:3. It was the team’s first defeat of the season.
After four matchdays, Augsburg have seven points and sit fourth. The international break gives Baum extra time to work with the team, as well as to wait for his absent players to return. With such a strong start to the season, any opportunity to bolster the squad could be significant for Augsburg.
